Twelve Mile Limit

Ingredients

  • 22.5 ml White rum
  • 22.5 ml Rye whiskey e.g. Rittenhouse, Bulleit Rye, Old Overholt
  • 22.5 ml Cognac
  • 22.5 ml Lemon juice
  • 7.5 ml Grenadine
  • Garnish Lemon twist

Preparation

  1. Shake all ingredients with ice.
  2. Strain into a chilled coupe glass. Don't know how? Pour the drink through a strainer (or the built-in strainer on your shaker) to catch the ice and any solids.
  3. Garnish with lemon twist. Use a peeler or knife to cut a wide strip, avoiding the white pith. Twist it over the drink to release the oils, then drop it in.

Origin Story

The Twelve Mile Limit cocktail is believed to have been created during Prohibition in the United States, symbolizing the boundary of legal drinking. Its name reflects the era's challenges and the creativity of bartenders in adapting to restrictions.
