Ward Eight

Ingredients

  • 60 ml Rye whiskey e.g. Rittenhouse, Bulleit Rye, Old Overholt
  • 22.5 ml Lemon juice
  • 22.5 ml Orange juice
  • 15 ml Grenadine
  • Garnish Orange slice, cherry

Preparation

  1. Shake all ingredients with ice.
  2. Strain into a chilled coupe glass. Don't know how? Pour the drink through a strainer (or the built-in strainer on your shaker) to catch the ice and any solids.
  3. Garnish with orange slice, cherry.

Origin Story

The Ward Eight cocktail is believed to have originated in Boston in the late 19th century, specifically around 1898, when it was created to celebrate a political victory in the city's Ward 8 district.
