Monkey Gland

Ingredients

  • 45 ml Gin
  • 30 ml Orange juice
  • 5 ml Absinthe
  • 5 ml Grenadine
  • Garnish Orange peel

Preparation

  1. Shake all ingredients with ice.
  2. Strain into a chilled coupe glass. Don't know how? Pour the drink through a strainer (or the built-in strainer on your shaker) to catch the ice and any solids.
  3. Garnish with orange peel. Use a peeler or knife to cut a wide strip, avoiding the white pith. Twist it over the drink to release the oils, then drop it in.

Origin Story

The Monkey Gland cocktail was created in the 1920s by bartender Harry MacElhone at Harry's New York Bar in Paris. Named after a controversial surgical procedure of the time, it reflects the adventurous spirit of the Prohibition era.
