Japanese Cocktail

Ingredients

  • 60 ml Cognac
  • 15 ml Orgeat
  • 3 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Garnish Lemon peel

Preparation

  1. Stir all ingredients with ice.
  2. Strain into a chilled coupe glass. Don't know how? Pour the drink through a strainer (or the built-in strainer on your shaker) to catch the ice and any solids.
  3. Garnish with lemon peel. Use a peeler or knife to cut a wide strip, avoiding the white pith. Twist it over the drink to release the oils, then drop it in.

Origin Story

The Japanese Cocktail is believed to have been created in the 19th century, possibly by a bartender in San Francisco, and is one of the earliest cocktails to incorporate orgeat syrup. Its name reflects the growing fascination with Japanese culture during that era.
