Gin Rickey

Ingredients

  • 60 ml Gin
  • 22.5 ml Lime juice
  • 90 ml Soda water
  • Garnish Lime wedge

Preparation

  1. Build gin and lime juice over ice in a highball glass.
  2. Top with soda water.
  3. Stir gently.
  4. Garnish with lime wedge. A wedge is a thick, lengthwise slice — usually a quarter or eighth of the fruit.

Origin Story

The Rickey was invented in the 1880s at Shoomaker's bar in Washington, D.C., originally made with bourbon for lobbyist Colonel Joe Rickey. The gin version quickly overtook the original and became one of the most popular summer drinks of the early 20th century. F. Scott Fitzgerald even mentioned it in The Great Gatsby.
