Ingredients
- 52.5 ml Cognac
- 7.5 ml Maraschino liqueur e.g. Luxardo
- 5 ml Curaçao
- 15 ml Lemon juice
- 5 ml Sugar syrup
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- Garnish lemon spiral
Preparation
- Rim the coupe with sugar. Don't know how? Moisten the rim with a citrus wedge, then dip it in a plate of sugar.
- Shake all ingredients with ice.
- Strain into a coupe lined with a spiral of lemon peel. Don't know how? Pour the drink through a strainer (or the built-in strainer on your shaker) to catch the ice and any solids.
- Garnish with lemon spiral. Use a peeler or knife to cut a wide strip, avoiding the white pith. Twist it over the drink to release the oils, then drop it in.
Origin Story
The Brandy Crusta dates back to the mid-19th century and is attributed to the famed bartender Jerry Thomas, who included it in his 1862 cocktail book, making it one of the earliest known cocktails featuring brandy.
