Suffering Bastard Original

Ingredients

  • 30 ml Bourbon e.g. Maker's Mark, Buffalo Trace, Woodford Reserve
  • 30 ml Gin
  • 15 ml Rose's Lime Cordial
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 120 ml Ginger beer
  • Garnish Mint, orange

Preparation

  1. Shake spirits, lime and bitters with ice.
  2. Strain into a highball over ice. Don't know how? Pour the drink through a strainer (or the built-in strainer on your shaker) to catch the ice and any solids.
  3. Top with ginger beer.
  4. Garnish with mint, orange.

Origin Story

The Suffering Bastard was created during World War II at the Shepherd's Hotel in Cairo, Egypt, as a remedy for hangovers among British soldiers. Its unique combination of spirits and ginger beer became a popular choice among travelers and expatriates.
