Suffering Bastard (Joe's)

Ingredients

  • 30 ml Gin
  • 30 ml Cognac
  • 15 ml Lime juice
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 120 ml Ginger beer
  • Garnish Mint sprig

Preparation

  1. Shake spirits, lime and bitters with ice.
  2. Strain into a tiki mug over ice. Don't know how? Pour the drink through a strainer (or the built-in strainer on your shaker) to catch the ice and any solids.
  3. Top with ginger beer.
  4. Garnish with mint sprig.

Origin Story

The Suffering Bastard cocktail originated during World War II, reportedly created at the Cairo bar of Joe's in Egypt to help soldiers cope with the heat and stress of war. Its eclectic mix of spirits and flavors embodies the resourcefulness and creativity of bartenders during that era.
