Bees Knees (Bourbon)

Ingredients

  • 60 ml Bourbon e.g. Maker's Mark, Buffalo Trace, Woodford Reserve
  • 22.5 ml Lemon juice
  • 22.5 ml Honey syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Garnish Lemon twist

Preparation

  1. Shake all ingredients with ice.
  2. Strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube. Don't know how? Pour the drink through a strainer (or the built-in strainer on your shaker) to catch the ice and any solids.
  3. Garnish with lemon twist. Use a peeler or knife to cut a wide strip, avoiding the white pith. Twist it over the drink to release the oils, then drop it in.

Origin Story

The Bees Knees cocktail, particularly in its bourbon variation, emerged in the Prohibition era, when honey was used to mask the harsh flavors of poorly made spirits. This modern classic has gained popularity for its balance of sweetness and acidity, appealing to contemporary tastes.
