Breakfast Martini

Ingredients

  • 50 ml Gin
  • 15 ml Cointreau
  • 15 ml Lemon juice
  • 1 barspoon Orange marmalade
  • Garnish Orange peel

Preparation

  1. Stir the marmalade with the lemon juice to dissolve.
  2. Add gin and Cointreau.
  3. Shake with ice.
  4. Strain into a chilled coupe glass. Don't know how? Pour the drink through a strainer (or the built-in strainer on your shaker) to catch the ice and any solids.
  5. Garnish with orange peel. Use a peeler or knife to cut a wide strip, avoiding the white pith. Twist it over the drink to release the oils, then drop it in.

Origin Story

The Breakfast Martini was created by Salvatore Calabrese at the Library Bar in the Lanesborough Hotel, London, in the late 1990s. Inspired by his morning toast with marmalade, Calabrese combined the preserve with gin, Cointreau, and lemon juice to create a cocktail that captures the bright, bittersweet flavors of a British breakfast in a glass.
